Our union is about to embark on a most challenging phase of development in the history of the labour movement. The creation of an international union, capable of taking on the global giants of capitalism, is a radical step forward.
Unions can only thrive if they are able to defend their members interests against employers who are hell bent on the total exploitation of all working people. The only way unions can defend their members effectively, in a global economy where capital knows no borders, is through international solidarity between workers. One union for all those workers is the only way this solidarity can be achieved.
This fact is well understood by the trots and that’s why the web site geek Beaumont has derided the latest announcement of Amicus’ intention to merge with the US and Canadian union the USW. Their wish is for us to avoid international mergers, so the decline of trade union membership and influence can be hastened and thereby bring forward the glorious day when they (the trots), as the vanguard, can liberate working people from their bondage.
Our plan (amicusttt) is for our union, Amicus, Unite, or whatever it ends up being called, to be strong enough to defend our members’ jobs, win them decent pay settlements and be able to influence government to adopt policies to reduce inequality in our society.
At this crucial time we need unity, across the sectors, sections and political divides of our union. To achieve this we must eradicate the trot menace from within our ranks.
Amicusttt intends to bring you news of amicus activity and political events from a truly progressive perspective. We will identify the trots and provide ammunition for progressive members to challenge them, in meetings, at conferences and importantly at elections.
